Product Performance Carpegen® Perio Diagnostics
Innovative real-time PCR
Real-time PCR, currently the most up-to-date and reliable analysis method, enables an accurate and specific determination of periodontal pathogenic germs.
High specificity
This is achieved by an additional, species-specific probe. Thus, false positive results from the determination of related, but non-pathogenic species are excluded.
High sensitivity
The lower detection limit of 100 bacterial cells per pathogen type is well below the limit of other available methods. This ensures reliable determination even from difficult-to-obtain samples. In addition, because DNA, a stable target molecule, is determined, false negative results from sample degradation are excluded.
Range of microorganisms
The test covers the six most important marker organisms of periodontitis and peri-implantitis:
- Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans
- Porphyromonas gingivalis
- Tannerella forsythia
- Treponema denticola
- Fusobacterium nucleatum ssp.
- Prevotella intermedia
Total bacterial load
Total bacterial load is an essential reference in microbial diagnostics of periodontitis since it is the only way to standardize results, thus making them comparable (similar to a reference volume [ml, ml] in clinical chemistry). This serves to make up for unavoidable variations during sampling.
Precise quantification
Precise quantification allows for a definite assessment of the microbial situation before and after therapy.
Quality Control and Automation
Real-time PCR allows for unparalleled automation and control of the entire analysis. Each individual reaction is monitored for required efficiency. In combination with internal controls, false negative or abnormally low results can be excluded.
Patient samples are analyzed in a highly automated laboratory. Upon arrival in the lab, samples are labeled with a machine-readable barcode, making it impossible to mix up samples or results. All downstream laboratory and analytical steps are executed by instruments (pipetting robot, real-time PCR instrument, data input computer) that read the barcode and, thus, unequivocally identify the sample. A report is automatically generated immediately after analysis results are available. It is thus impossible to leave out or mix up results, or to subjectively (mis)interpret them. Comparable results, for example during a recall phase, are thus always available.
Report of Results
The detailed and clear report of the results is an ideal tool for communicating with and motivating patients successfully. The report is mailed with therapy advice customized to the microbial results, based on the current recommendations of the German Society for Periodontology. The report is available within a few days and can be sent in advance by fax or e-mail upon request.
