Gyronimo, a fully automated real-time PCR system, enables microbiological real-time analyses at the point of care for the first time.
Funded since 2007 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Carpegen has developed in cooperation with Systec GmbH, a specialist in micro-electro-mechanical systems, a proprietary point-of-care diagnostic system for nucleic acid analysis. The uniquely fast, sensitive and cost-effective GyronimoTM System combines nucleic acid extraction from various sample types with subsequent real-time PCR analysis. The fully automated detection procedure can be operated by untrained personnel, e.g. in the doctor's office during the patient's visit or in a hospital at the patient's bedside.
The GyronimoTM Systemis based on a highly versatile platform, the GyronimoTM Analyzer, which processes disease-specific microfluidic cartridges for the analysis of diverse markers, e.g. bacterial pathogens. The cartridges contain storage-stable reagents for the entire testing procedure and operate according to the proprietary "fluidic circles principle" that integrates all analysis steps and forms the system's extraordinary flexibility permitting the smooth adaptation to a licensee's specific requirements. The GyronimoTM Cartridge's properties allow a genuine "sample in – results out" process, thus minimizing hands-on-time and eliminating contaminations risks. Due to the integrated fluidic pump sample volumes are highly variable, contributing further to the exceptional versatility of the system. The first application of the GyronimoTM System will be in the field of dentistry, offering a rapid diagnosis of periodontal pathogens in the dental office.
Carpegen is looking for partners interested in licensing in the GyronimoTM System for different areas of application, e.g. respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, hospital and wound infections, tropical diseases, intra-operative tumor diagnostics, GMO's, food and environmental pathogens, biological threats and many more.
